🟠 To ensure accurate detection of pathogens, our clinic performs nasopharyngeal swab collection.
As shown in the diagram, a very fine swab is gently inserted horizontally through the nostril, following the floor of the nasal cavity to an appropriate depth: • Infants: approx. 4 cm • Toddlers: approx. 4–5 cm • School-age children: approx. 5–6 cm The swab is stopped just a few millimeters before the uppermost part of the nasopharynx. It is then left in place for a few seconds to absorb nasal secretions. Afterward, the swab is gently rotated against the nasal mucosa and carefully withdrawn. To ensure safe and accurate sampling, our staff will assist in gently stabilizing the child’s head and body during the procedure. Please note: If nasal inflammation is present (such as with rhinitis), minor nosebleeds may occur. In most cases, bleeding stops within 5 minutes. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us provide safe and effective care.
